All aboard Cap'n...
This is a shot from a boat harbour near St. Angelo's Fort, Kannur.... First time I am using a telephoto zoom lens and had to click a lot of times to get it in proper focus and without shake...
Its taken using a Nikon D5000 with a Sigma 70-300 APO DG lens....

Kathakali.... the art of Dance and Drama
Kathakali is a stylized classical art form which originated in Kerala in the 17th century. it has attractive makeups that varies through characters. Its more play than a dance, as It tells the story through a series of hand gestures and body movements accompanied by a background song and instruments music.
This is the first time I am getting the opportunity to capture Kathakali. This shot is from the backstage as he just finished the makeup and waiting for the play to begin. This is Nalan(character) from Nalacharitham(play), captured from a temple in Kannur.

Nothing's worth a cup of tea....
I was alone home, and I had to make a tea for myself...I must admit, itz the worst I ever had....Well, thatz to my tongue... But to my eyes, it was awesome...
As I would never leave almost anything without taking a picture, how could I not make use of it...
Nice diffuse lighting was provided by sun through my window and I din't had to do anything but to click... Tweaked the contrast a bit in photoshop and nothing else....

Lamp post...
This one I got from near my home, when I was playing around with my cam on a free day. It was a sunny day, and this lamp was glowing and so were the grass stood behind. With a 200 mm focal length, I got a nice bokeh and a sharp focus.

Theyyam...
Theyyam is a traditional art form of worship in Kerala. These are performed by experts at special occassions or festivals in selected temples. There are more than 50 different types of Theyyams across the state.
This is 'Muchilott Bhagavathi' captured from a temple in Cherukunnu, Kannur, Kerala.
This is the first time I m uploading photos of art forms in flickr. Its captured using a Nikon D5000 + Sigma 70-300 APO DG lens.

Wait....
It was one of those days when I got a new telephoto lens, I was playing (and learning) with it whenever I got free time. I got a friend as my model (well...only her nails...) and she sat sooo patiently as I took photos for an hour, becoz it was hard to get the exposure and focus proper as I was first time on a telephoto... so I dedicate this image to that friend...
The macro works pretty well in Sigma 70-300 APO... I put the aperture all the way opened and a slow shutter to get a good background highlight and depth of field...Apologies for the small but noticeable motion blur.. Did some brightness and contrast adjustments in post, but the colors are original...

Chendamelam...
Chendamelam (also known as Pancharimelam) is performed during almost all festivals, mostly in temples, or accompanied with art forms like Theyyam, Kathakali, Koodiyattam, etc and other cultural activities in Kerala. Chenda, as seen here, is the main instrument in Pancharimelam along with 3 more intruments.

traffiicc...
First time uploading b/w photo on flickr.... and after trying a lot first time i m getting good results in panning shots.... this was a shot from my office which is on a second floor, where i was tring to spend some time with my camera while i was free..... so i gave it a try to tracking shots of vehicles and got bunch of photos, where this one looked gud...it was an afternoon time and so sunny outside , so i got to try a lot to get the proper exposure... anyway the results were pleasing for me....
b/w and vignette added in post processing....

Retired beauty....
Today one of my friends gave me this old model (well, not so old but i dont know the year) Yashica. As I couldnt take pictures with it, i just used it in the other way, as my subject.
I think D5000 with its kit lens is doin' pretty well in close ups. Now here is what I got.
B/W effect added in Photoshop.

Tradition
Its called a "Chellappetti" used for storing ornaments in the earlier times in Kerala. There's a bigger model also,and this is a small one. I got this old one from my mom's home. I just placed it on the floor and captured it.

Rising...
One day I went to one of ma friends place, where there are lots of rice fields and all... We reach there early and it was a fine morning...These are Waterlily buds, found in a small pond near to a rice field.... Water was so steady and the sun was rising ahead.... Did some more experiments too from this place.... I ll upload it later...

who else can it be....
Itz my first self-portrait on flickr...i was thinking about how to take a self-portrait with the camera including in the frame and i got it after 11-12 shots...itz inside my bedroom and no extra lights or reflectors were used, except an incandesend light on one side with a fill CFL ...
did some color corrections as well....
