The University of Washington is where I'm currently honing my skills as an oil painter, at the time of this entry, I'm preparing to enter my senior year toward a BFA. The emphasis here is developing the skills of observation from life, using still life setups, live models, and outside landscape studies. The training so far has been valuable in learning how to mix colors and get into the habit of art as a discipline that requires an incredible amount of focused time and energy. The voices of different instructors float around in my head as I work now, each contributing their unique advice, from Helen O'Toole: Don't be afraid to use more paint, to Philip Govedare: Let the painting become a dialogue between what you see and how you express it, to Zhi Lin: That looks like poop!
