1/365-What a Day for a Daydream-5/23/08
Ok, here it is, folks. I was sick of flowers and wanted something different and this is it. I'm officially starting the 365 Project.
This is the start of something good. I'm going into it with no expectations. I'm not expecting to be amazing right from the start. I'm hoping to grow as a person through this experience and I'm hoping to get a better grasp on shooting portraits.
I hope you enjoy my journey and I hope we both get something out of it.

This is my first shot on my adventure. It's not perfectly in focus as I am still learning how to get it in focus without me actually being in the shot. I'm shooting these with my new camera remote and it doesn't allow for auto focus while I'm actually in the shot. So that'll be my first thing to try and figure out while I'm doing this. Hopefully the upcoming shots will be a little better than this but I don't think it's terrible for my very first attempt!

2/365-Looking into Myself-5/24/08
I was downstairs in the basement last night messing around with the camera when got the idea to do a shot like this. So I went back down today when it was just a little bit lighter to snag this shot. I really kinda like it. It's not as good as some that I've seen but it's not terribly awful either.
I really am proud of myself for doing this project. I've never been overly fond of my beauty but thanks to the help of my boyfriend, I've come to see that I really am a beautiful young woman inside and out. I'm finally ready to show myself to the world.

3/365-Naughty Librarian-5/25/08
I am such a nerd. It's blatantly obvious when you first meet me. I love reading Shakespeare and I love going to school and I love doing research on things most people find boring. I was always in the library in high school and I love reading everything I can get my hands on. I was even president of the Library Guild in high school. I got my varsity letter from being captain of the speech team.
I love being a nerd. I don't find it offensive when people call me a nerd. I enjoy every minute of being me, even if I am kinda weird sometimes.

4/365-The Day the Internet Died-5/26/08
So my dad and bro were planting a tree in my backyard yesterday and inadvertantly cut through the phone line that is buried in the backyard. Way to go boys.
Due to this lovely problem and the fact that I have to go to Panera whenever I need to use the internet for something not available on my phone, I will be a couple days behind on my 365 project.
On a happier note, Happy Summer everyone! I hope you all had a great Memorial Day. I'd like to thank all those who have fought or are fighting for our country. We really do appreciate your courage.

Day 6-Job Interviews-5/28/08
I went out to look for a job today. After visiting close to 10 places and filling out all those applications, this was exactly how I felt. At least I looked pretty and the rain had stopped.

Day 5-Rain Dance-5/27/08
It rained today. I think we should start building an ark because it just doesn't seem to want to stop. Some parts of St. Louis got 9 inches of rain!
Usually I try to avoid big puddles because I don't like having wet socks and shoes but today I felt like going outside to dance in the rain.

Day 7-My Bridge and I-5/29/08
So I went to MO-BOT today instead of looking for jobs. I couldn't help it. The weather was just too nice to not be outside.
This is my bridge. I love this bridge if you couldn't tell from seeing it in my stream so many times. I really love this picture. I got really wet trying to take it. It was about 10:30 in the morning so the dew was fresh in the grass. But hey the shot looks good so that's all that matters.

Day 8-Quiet Place-5/30/08
I've been having a tough time lately and I just felt that I needed some quiet time in a peaceful place. So I headed off to Faust Park in Chesterfield and I found my tree and just sat and thought about life. It was a nice time and I think the picture turned out nicely too.
I'm shooting a job for my first client tomorrow. I'm nervous but confident at the same time. Wish me luck!

Day 9-Not Feeling It Today-5/31/08
I'm just not feeling my 365 today. Between having to get up early to do the Bar Mitzvah today and the headache that ensued afterwards I just was not in the mood to put any effort into the shot for today. Sorry guys. Hopefully tomorrow will bring about a more creative image.

Day 10-Resting in the Park-6/1/08
I went to Forest Park today for my shoot. I love Forest Park. There's so many great things to do there. And the Muny season is coming up which is very exciting. For those of you who don't know, the Muny is the only running outdoor theatre left in the U.S. Every summer they do about eight musicals that run for a week each. My friends and I love packing snacks and going to sit in the free seats. Such a fun time!
This shot was taken at the bottom of Art Hill. At the top of Art Hill is the Art Museum and then in the bottom is the Grand Basin which has this gorgeous fountain where boat rentalists can paddle around in. It's really pretty. I love this shot!

Day 11-All She Wants to Do is Dance-6/2/08
After applying for jobs today I went back to this spot I saw yesterday while I was at Forest Park. This shot would have been much prettier had the sun been out today but I can't control the weather so I'll have to take what I get. It's a nice shot anyway.

Day 12-Tomboy-6/3/08
I'm such a tomboy. As a child I loved to climb trees and play in the mud and just get dirty while having fun. Even though these days I still like to get dirty and make a mess, I'm much girlier now, you've seen the dresses.

Day 13-Hot Day, Cool Drink-6/4/08
My little sister and I went to the zoo today and it was so hot that we decided to get ice cream afterwards. I got a Raspberry Lemonade smootie and it was amazing! Best smoothie I've had in a long time. Muy Bueno!

Day 14-At the Park-6/4/08
After going to a handful of places to look for a job today, I went to the park for my 365. There were a lot of people there and some of them were looking at me strange for taking pictures of myself on the swing but hey, what can you do?
I edited this same picture two different ways and posted them both here on flickr. If you would tell me which one you like better it would be much appreciated!
I'm not sure if this is my favorite shot ever but I do like it. It's my first experiment with textures and layers. I was going for an aged look and I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out.

Day 15-Rainy Day Activities-6/6/08
It was a rainy day today and the tornado sirens started going off so we went down into the basement for cover. We're ok but we're still in the basement just in case. I hate this spring's weather that's been hitting St. Louis. All it's done is rain. Yuck! How am I supposed to go outside to take pictures if it's always raining?!

Day 16-New Photo Location-6/7/08
I wanted to find somewhere new to start shooting pictures so I ventured to Tower Grove Park today. I was pleasantly surprised. They have a lot of picture perfect spots there. This is just a spot I was trying out to see if I liked. I'm not overly happy with this picture but I didn't have much luck with getting great shots today. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

Day 17-Reflections-6/8/08
I can't take all the credit for this image. It's not as great as I'd hoped it would be. I got the idea from Duckling Photography aka Ducky from a wedding shot he took in March. My shot is not nearly as good as his...at all but it's good for a first attempt I guess. It took me forever to figure out how to do the shot though. And once I got that far I had all kinds of issues with cropping and things like that. But, it could have been worse.
The overlay is another from Memories Photography (by Mary Miller). She makes some great stuff.

Day 19-Untitled-6/10/08
I got a new telephoto lens yesterday and just had to go out and test it today. So I went to MO-BOT for the first time in forever. My camera was being wonky today though and was metering way off so I had to do it manually. But it wasn't so bad. I did pretty well for the most part. It took me forever to find PP that I liked but i'm loving the look of this shot.

Day 20?Sitting Pretty?6/11/08
I was planning on going out to take my picture today but then my mother came and blocked my car in and refused to move it. So I had to improvise with the neighbor's yard since he has better light than we do. Let me tell you I am in love with this shot. Completely in love with it.

Day 21-Lakeside-6/12/08
I visited my old haunt today. I went back to where I went to college my freshman year. They have some really nice hiking trails around the campus that lead to a beautiful lake. So I headed on a walk around the trails and shot this near the lake out there. I had to fight off angry momma geese with adorable baby geese and lots of bugs and of course the sweltering heat. But the shot turned out fairly well and that's what matters.

Day 22-New Shoes-6/13/08
I got new shoes today! And new clothes too! We went out to lunch with my grandma and she bought everyone some new clothes. Well, mine aren't exactly new since none of the clothes at Dillard's fit me (and they weren't too cute either) so we stopped at a resale place across the street and I found some adorable stuff there! Look for some of the new stuff tomorrow!
Anyway, not the best shot to say the least but, hey, no biggie. Ignore the deathly pale ghost-like legs...I really am not a recluse...I do get out in the sun sometimes. No creepy foot fetish comments please.

Day 29-New Camera Stuff-6/20/08
I got new camera stuff today! I went to Wolf Camera because they're the cheaper camera store around here. I've been needing a new tripod so that was my main reason for going. I got a tripod that converts to a monopod for $40! That's $30 cheaper than at the other camera store! And since it was so much cheaper than I had expected, I splurged on a $40 camera bag that is big enough to hold all my stuff so I won't need to carry 3 bags with me when I go out shooting. I'm so excited! WooHoo!

Day 30-At Peace-6/21/08
After a hard week of dealing with a failed relationship I've finally come to terms with it being over, and you know, I'm ok with it. We've decided to stay friends and that's fine with me. We were great friends before the relationship came to be and I wouldn't mind going back to that again.
Tonight we joked around like we used to and hadn't done in a long time. It was nice to go back to that. I'm finally at peace with where I am right now and where I am going in the future. It's a good place to be.

Day 31-Vulnerability-6/22/08

I used to be terrified that I was going to be alone all my life. It was my biggest fear of all. But, after being in a few relationships, I've come to realize that I could deal with being alone, but being totally open and vulnerable with someone scares me to death. It's just the idea of opening my heart to someone and leaving myself open to potential hurt and pain is very scary for me. I've been hurt before and it was devastating and the thought of going through that again is utterly terrifying.
I know that there is someone out there who I'll be able to open up to without having to fear pain and loneliness. My very own Prince Charming that so many others have seemed to find. It's all just a matter of waiting for him to show up. Actually, I'm not going to wait for him to find me...I'm going to find him first.

Day 32-Post Secret Project-6/23/08

I got this idea from a contact of mine. I think she makes her own secrets but I've decided to go about it a different way. I'm finding other people's secrets and using them in my photos to kind of...symbolize...how the secrets of one are the secrets of many. So, yes, these secrets are those of people from all over and they are my secrets too. And maybe if I'm bold enough to tell you all my secrets and the original secret teller sees it in my work, then perhaps they won't feel so alone anymore.

Day 34-More Job Applications-6/25/08
It's time to fill out more job applications. I went out but forgot my piece of paper with all my numbers and information on them so I just picked up applications instead of filling them out onsite. After stopping at home to pick up my paper, I went to the park to fill them out...only it was a million degrees outside so I decided to cut that idea short and just head home.
